Why the Most Powerful Thing You Can Do This August Is Start the School Year Together

There is a version of the new school year that most families know well. The child goes back. The parent hopes for the best. The first few weeks pass. And then — a bad test result, a tearful evening, a homework battle that runs too long — and the worry that was quietly present all along becomes impossible to ignore.

And then comes the scramble. The search for lessons. The conversationswith the teacher. The attempt to catch up on ground that was already lost before the term began.

This does not have to be how it goes.

The difference a shared start makes

When a parent and child begin the school year with the same information, the same goals, and the same plan, something shifts. The child knows their parent understands what they are working toward. The parent knows what their child needs and how to support it without taking over. The home becomes a place where learning is reinforced rather than resisted.

That shared start does not happen by coincidence. It requires both the parent and the child to do something intentional — before school reopens, not after the first difficulty arrives.

What gets in the way

Most parents want to be more involved in their child's learning. But involvement without knowledge becomes either pressure or passivity — pushing too hard without knowing what the child needs, or stepping back because nothing seems to work.

Most children want to do well at school. But wanting is not the same as knowing how. A child who does not have the study habits, the reading routine, or the specific skills they need will try hard and still fall short — and eventually stop trying as hard.

The gap between wanting to help and knowing how is where most families get stuck. And it is exactly the gap the Back-to-School Success Programme is designed to close.

Two programmes. One goal. One family.

This August, The Desha Academy is running two programmes at Carlton Centre, San Fernando — one for parents and one for children — designed to be taken together.

For you — the Parent Success Workshop
Saturday 8th August · 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM

Two hours that give you the tools, not just the tips. Homework routines that work. Reading habits you can build at home. How to support your child through difficulty without doing the work for them. How to prepare for SEA from an early age — whatever Standard your child is currently in.

You will leave with a Back-to-School Planning Guide and a Homework Routine Template — practical resources to use from the first day of term.

$150 TTD · Early Bird $125 TTD by Monday 3rd August

For your child — the Children's Academic Bootcamp
Monday 10th – Wednesday 12th August · 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Three mornings of reading, writing, mathematics, critical thinking, and goal setting for children ages 7–9 in Standards 2 and 3. A structured, warm, small-group environment where every child is seen, encouraged, and challenged at the right level.

Children leave with a workbook, a certificate of completion, and — more importantly — the momentum of a mind that has been sharpened and a confidence that has been quietly rebuilt.

Because the most powerful version of this is not a parent who attended a workshop and a child who attended a bootcamp. It is a family that started the year with the same intention, the same tools, and the same belief that this term is going to be different.

Early Bird pricing closes Monday 3rd August.
