Calypso Writing Programme

The Calypso Writing Programme is a creative writing experience rooted in the rich storytelling tradition of Trinidad and Tobago, and it is open to children and adults from around the world.

Calypso has always been more than music. It is storytelling, commentary, humour, and expression. Through this programme, participants learn how to use writing as a tool to share ideas, tell stories, and express their inner thoughts.

Whether you are local or joining from abroad, this programme offers a unique opportunity to explore writing through Trinbago’s cultural lens.

What Participants Will Experience

Participants will be guided to:

✔ Develop creative writing skills through storytelling

✔ Explore rhythm, rhyme, and lyrical expression

✔ Use lyrical construct in determining “Double Entendre” (a phrase or line with two meanings: one straightforward and one suggestive)

✔ Use personal experiences and observations as inspiration

✔ Build confidence in expressing ideas clearly

✔ Learn how culture and storytelling connect

While this programme is rooted in Trinidad and Tobago’s calypso tradition, the skills developed are universal.

Participants learn how to:

  • tell meaningful stories

  • express opinions creatively

  • connect writing to real-life experiences

The Calypso Writing Programme is offered in structured cohorts (online, in-person or hybrid):

8-week programme (2x weekly) – ideal for building foundational skills and confidence

12-week programme (2x weekly) – for deeper development and continued growth
